Mutsumi Wakaba, guitarist of Ave Mujica. Quiet and of few words, she helps out with simple tasks aboard Rhodes Island, and has her own little patch in the Convalescent Garden for growing produce.

Like Sakiko Togawa, Mutsumi Wakaba comes from a well-off family. Born to famous parents, she had been the center of attention from a young age, and was childhood friends with Sakiko. Though Mutsumi often struggles to communicate her feelings, it is crystal clear how important Sakiko is to her, and how she quietly supports Sakiko.
Mutsumi's struggles with communication have continued on Rhodes Island. She tends to help out with Sakiko's work where she can, seldom interacting with others on her own.
She can sometimes be found tending to fruits and vegetables on her own in the Convalescent Garden. She shows little sign of emotion when other operators talk to her, the conversation ending after a couple of short exchanges. That said, it wasn't long before people noticed that Mutsumi does not only work on her own plot; she also helps care for plants in other areas. To return the favor, the other operators help her out in kind without saying a word, working together to keep the garden beautiful.
In a later development, operators began to find paper bags at their dormitory doors, filled with produce planted by Mutsumi—in her own way, an utmost expression of her gratitude.
Sakiko has asked us not to put too much pressure on Mutsumi. Mutsumi's mother is a famous actress and her father a famous comedian, leading the entertainment industry and the public to place great expectations on her, something that has troubled her all her life. Outside of her remarkable family circumstances, however, she is simply a kind-hearted girl who struggles with communication.
Sakiko tells us that she knows she cannot shelter Mutsumi all the time, but at least she wants to give Mutsumi a place where she can feel safe and comfortable.
Mutsumi does not talk much, but her kind heart is there for everyone to see. She always works hard to complete her missions, and other operators are impressed about how much she listens to others, as can be seen from her mission reports. As a matter of fact, Mutsumi is quite sensitive to what others say, and it is precisely her desire to live up to other people's expectations that has created pressure for her. She keeps these struggles to herself, only pushing herself harder. This personality trait has led to her suffering many times over. Sakiko, Mutsumi's childhood friend, is the only one who understands her pain. Hopefully, the support of other Rhodes Island operators will make life a little easier for Mutsumi here.

Mutsumi has spent her entire life under the gaze of others—from her parents, from the entertainment industry, and from society at large, all wanting 'Mutsumi Wakaba' to become who they want her to be.
Under such pressure, a terrified and helpless Mutsumi played the role of a good daughter and a future star like her mother, with acting that surpassed even her mother in skill.
Mutsumi played countless 'roles' in order to protect herself. She grew more numb every time she took the stage or exited it as one of these roles, and stopped thinking about anything other than being the Mutsumi Wakaba that people wanted to see.

    Sakiko is worried for Mutsumi.
    It's been a while since the advent of their life at Rhodes Island, but Mutsumi remains her silent self. She is there for missions and practice, but one hardly ever sees her mingling with the other operators.
    Sakiko knows how Mutsumi always struggles with putting her feelings into words. Hoping she isn't being stressed out, Sakiko decides to pay her a visit.
    Tending to the fruits and vegetables in the Convalescent Garden is one of Mutsumi's small little pleasures. Sakiko knows she enjoys spending time there.
    As Sakiko goes to the garden, she finds Mutsumi is right there in the garden.
    She isn't even sure why she's so nervous as she slips into a corner. From there, she catches Mutsumi's voice in conversation.
    'Is Mutsumi talking to somebody...?' Sakiko's heart makes a light pirouette of joy.
    She catches little snatches of the discussion here and there—Terran plant cultivation and growth stages, the Garden's environmental regulator systems, what kinds of produce the operators like.
    'As you say, Lancet-2, watering isn't a trade without its tricks.'
    'Indeed. If you're in need of a hand, I will gladly help—save water, or have it be mineral-enriched, just tell me what you need and I'll make the adjustments.'
    'Thank you...'
    'However, I can't make any promises about the results. I'm only acting based on the knowledge I have available, after all...'
    'Hey! What's with all that negativity? Take pride in yourself! We WILL do this!'
    'Okay, THRM-EX. The lighting system's on you.'
    'My passion goes out to you, Madam Wakaba! Leave it to me! I've never been assigned with such a delicate mission before, but have no fear, I'll show you a job done perfectly! You have it on my name that I won't be exploding!'

    'I came under the assumption my knowledge was necessary to renovate the Convalescent Garden... Did you really call me here for this frivolity? No hard feelings, but I'm taking my leave.'

    'Don't push me, Castle-3! What? Stay here and make sure nobody thieves the vegetables?!'
    'Now then, what do you seek from me? ...You wish to learn how these plants are nurtured and how the pests are kept at bay? I shan't mind. Tending to the young ones is one of life's many pleasant distractions.'
    'By our powers combined, the sprouting of the largest cucumber on Rhodes Island is nigh! I'm sure Closure will be STUNNED by our efforts!'
    '...Hmph. What a waste of time.'
    Sakiko feels relief wash over her. Mutsumi has made this many friends at Rhodes Island!
    Not having caught the conversation in its entirety, Sakiko doesn't know what those new friends' names are. I shall ask Mutsumi about them whenever the opportunity comes up, she thinks to herself, exiting the Garden.
    As expected, Mutsumi succeeded in cultivating an enormous cucumber. The excessively maverick methods employed, however, had seen the cucumber's composition mutate, and any further cultivation ended up forbidden. For her part, Mutsumi kept her silence on the whole matter, and so Sakiko never found out who those friends of hers were.
